Advance 9259 Superbly Tailored Dress - Handsome Details / ca. 1960 and I used some of the actual description for this pattern which says:  Straight-line dress has handsome details that give it a superbly tailored look.  Widening shoulder narrows to waist with turn back tuck stitched to side section.  Center front dart points up for fashion" - wow.   Pattern makers today are too lazy.  These descriptions from old patterns just brighten up my day!  Another beauty from Advance Sewing Patterns

Advance 2930 Achingly Beautiful Dress / ca. 1962 a pattern I just received in an order yesterday and I dashed to the scanner to do this right away.  What a heartbreaker it is.

A bit of sentimentality today.  It would have been my mother's 92nd birthday so Happy Birthday Mom!  No matter how old we get we are still children when it comes to our moms.

Gifts You Can Sew Book No. S-11 Aprons, Bags, Hats & More! 1942 with the neatest retro projects.  My favorite section is the stuff you can make for servicemen including a duffle bag.  Remember this is 1942 right at wartime.

Found about 200 wonderful patterns yesterday along with some old knit and crochet booklets a few listed today.  It was a good day.  Also came across a set of dishes that pulled me to it like a magnet.  The soup bowls had cats in them.  They came in a box - set of 16 and the quality surprised me.   I bought the set (even my husband who was with me liked them) for $35.00.  It was my intent to check online to buy an additional set to add to it as this is only for 4.  What a surprise to find this set is "retired" and collectible and it is $219.95 for the set I bought!  Wow.  Even the pieces separately on Ebay are pricey.  I was afraid to have my cup of coffee in the cup today but overcame my fear - smile.

Oh not exactly a vintage but check this out!  Simplicity 6579 Broadway Nights Asymmetrical Coat 1984 the most awesome coat ever.

 I have a vintage Betty Rose black wrap coat with a huge shawl collar - ankle length and just the warmest most lovely coat.  This pattern reminds me of it just a little.  I've tried to find out more about this line of clothes - mostly coats - but though there are quite a few selling no real info.

Thank you Sylvia for all the great patterns you've sent me!  My favorite thing to do when listing is doing the research and then finding a rare treasure!  This "New" featured pattern is one such rare treasure:

McCall's 4629 Jaunty Chemise Jumper & Blouse 1958 and though pretty it's the back blousing that stands out for me.  Kind of like a dressy bowling shirt!  And a little bum bow too - smile.  Skip that one for me my bum sticks out enough to attract notice anyway.

Starting our winter garden today.  Our winter garden is most areas spring garden.  Hubby put in some slightly raised gardens with bricks and it looks so pretty all along our patio.  We've been a fan of Mel Bartholomew's Square Foot Gardening Techniques for about 30 years and it works so great.  You don't need alot of room to have a productive crop.

Prominent Designer M477 Makes Me Smile Mod Dress or Top 1960's and as cute as the dress is that top worn with a pair of jeans would rock!

While reading the news I noted a link to a Fortune Magazine article:  What We Wore Simply put, the history of office attire for men goes something like this: suits, suits, suits, suits, khakis. A closer look reveals a more textured (and patterned) evolution in work wear. Well that's was quite a tease!  It was quite a good article so check it out.

Butterick 9512 Hollywood Starlet Casual Coordinates / ca. 1960 and can't you just picture some want to be movie star from the 1960's posing for pictures in that hooded shirt & slacks!  Life or Post used to have articles about young starlets and I would hunker down in bed and peruse the pictures and dream!

While out scrounging for patterns Friday I found a rather cool book:  Dictionary of American Slang.  Always looking for just the right word to describe an item.  Some of the ones are pretty awful - grin!  But some are just right.

Found some fun 2000's women's magazines - the kind where it matters not how old it is.  A super cute idea on using vintage hankies and display them instead of leaving them in a drawer.  Find a cute flower bowl or vase (a narrow neck works best) and unfold the hankie, pick it up in the middle and stuff it in the vase.  A pretty dresser display!

Featured New is truly "new" - Butterick 5557 Tight & Sexy Top & Skirt 2010.  A "contemporary" match to the vintage skirt.  It's a reissue of a 1955 pattern and it deserves to be made again.  Nice tight fitting top with hip darting to assure a figure hugger and then that tight tight skirt.

Vogue 7504 Breathtaking Coat-Dress 1951 a very rare beauty indeed.  Unique "tulip" styled neckline in view B is classic.  It is truly amazing to me how these fragile items ever survive this long.  Makes me want to cry when I think of all the ones that are just thrown away when houses are cleaned out when people die.

Featured new is Vogue 2798 Down on the Farm Overalls 1991 shouts casual and cute all at once.  I always visualize cruising a big old swap meet filled with junk wearing something like this.  Driver's license and cash in my pockets and nothing else to keep my hands free!
