LABOR DAY SALE ONLY FOR YOU!!  Use keyword LABORDAY at checkout and get 20% off.  This is not an advertised sale but I wanted to make this holiday weekend great for you!

McCall's 1990 Poinsettias Appli-Press Fabric Applique / ca. 1954 okay a little early for a Christmassy pattern but if you want to start early here it is.  Inside are three "felt" feeling poinsettias.  Use on clothing, pillows, tablecloth or lots of other things.

In this time of financial uncertainty we are all looking for ways to cut back and make do.  We certainly don't eat out as much and shop more wisely - sales & deals.  Here's an informative site that helps you make your clothes last longer and stay nicer:  16 Ways to Make Your Clothes Last Longer

This section was found at WiseBread.com Living Large On a Small Budget.  I've spent hours on this and it's been very helpful.  Enjoy.

Vogue 9675 Tapered Dress - Back Tied Overlay 1986  Nice tapered dress and then you turn around and a fun tie behind.  Interesting feature.

Did you know that Sunset Magazine has their recipes on their website?  I was looking for a baby back rib recipe that was in one of their magazines that I used and saved but couldn't find it today.  Went to their site did a search and voila!   Guess what we are having for dinner tonite?

McCall's 3607 Head Turner Trapeze Dress 1988 a super rare pattern.  Not sure why but it is very cute.  Couldn't find one other anywhere on the internet.  Hmmmm.  But I like it!

Always looking for Estate Sales which are often a treasure trove of sewing items.  Not just patterns but fabric, buttons, sewing machines and more.  Unfortunately living in Yuma limits the use of Estatesales.net but maybe this site can help you find some fun stuff and not just for sewing.   I've got some questions to some Phoenix estate sale people about patterns - keep your fingers crossed.  I hate to travel that far without knowing there are alot.

Simplicity 4962 Luscious Dress with Detachable Trim / ca. 1954 a nice dress in a reasonable size too.  It is a bust 36.  It will actually fit me!  Lots of possibilities for that detachable trim- make it personal!

Had a lovely visit with my sister.  She got a new puppy who is just the sweetest.  A white lab puppy about 4 months old and is the most laid back dog I've ever met.  Now you know how much I want one too but will have to resist.

SALE NOTICE!  I am starting a 15% off Pattern Sale at noon tomorrow until Sunday night.  I'll post in the morning the code word so that you readers can get a few hours bonus shopping time before I formally send notice of the sale.

Vogue 7571 Dining on the Titanic Dress 2002 could any dress be more magical? This beauty is extremely rare which is odd as it is only a 2002.  Perhaps it wasn't produced in great amounts or were totally snatched up and used.  The few I found on the internet were higher than what I am listing it for.

This might be a good moment to give some advice to those of you who are looking for vintage or scarce patterns.  One word of advice: RESEARCH.  It takes me longer with each and every pattern I list to research than to list.  I first check the Vintage Pattern Wikia and then go to Ebay, then I do a Google search.  I follow each and every link to see size, condition, price.  When you are researching and buying don't forget to check for shipping!  I have found a scarce pattern on Ebay and when I go to buy it I find that shipping has been jacked up so much the pattern isn't a deal.  When you find a pattern you can't live without - hesitate - and do your research.  Even on my site - hesitate - research.  Patterns are priced according to that day's listing research.  Things change and I am always rechecking and adjusting prices accordingly.

Thanks to Maggie at Costumersguide.com for the blog about my website and my many costume patterns.  Right after her posting I had a very nice sale that came from her site - big thanks!

I have an early early morning MRI so will post tonight!  Gawd I hate alarms.  Since I retired I never use it but will have to tomorrow.  Dang.

An oldie featured here: Simplicity 4739 Smartly Tailored Dress - Deep Pockets / ca. 1954 which though plain just has that "something" for me.  And very rare too.  Love finding patterns that can't be found anywhere.

A number of these 50's and 60's for tomorrow that are pretty special.

Simplicity 4692 Heartbreaker Rockabilly Dress 1960's - so Patsy Cline.  No one has ever topped her voice IMO.  Sang like an angel, talked like a truckdriver.

Finally got my pics uploaded.  I'll just put a link in and go throw myself on the couch with a margarita.  What a day!

Having a problem uploading pictures on my website - grrr!  I will try and put them in later today and if I can I'll post and link for you!

McCall's 6715 Avant Garde Jacket, Blouse & Skirt 1979 a real beauty!  Looks very 20's or early 30's - Lois Lane Girl Reporter.

Thank you Gloria for sharing your daughter's prom dress picture with me!  The original dress pattern was Simplicity 8425 modified to be a spaghetti strap vision of loveliness.  Breathtaking!

Butterick 5090 Jiggy Vest, Jacket, Skirt & Pants 1970's extra nice and versatile wardrobe.  I have some rare and unique patterns listed today but I just plain liked this for it's versatility.  And no your eyes aren't fuzzy the picture is.  Not my picture - their picture.

Having trouble sewing using plaids?  Or checks?  Silly question who doesn't.  Another useful link from EHow -

How to Match Plaids or Checks With a Sewing Pattern

I just bought a food dehydrator and when looking for a "how to" site I got directed to EHow.  There isn't anything that isn't on that site.  Wow.  Got it bookmarked now.  Can't wait to get my dehydrator - my favorite snacks are dried apples and pineapple etc.  Anyone use a dehydrator and have any tips or hints let me know!

Vogue 8281 Extravagent Top & Skirt 2006 one of the patterns I got from the closed sewing store lady.  I wish I had 50 of this one.  Timeless in look - could even be used as a "period" costume.

Still working my way thru 4 huge bins of patterns.  Have them sorted into manufacturer and then separated into misses' and kid's and costumes.

Making it a day of shopping today.  Hitting all the local thrift stores so wish me luck finding some treasures.

Thank you to Marie for sending me the Golden Eagle Syrup and all those delicious recipes!  Can't decide between the BBQ beans or Pecan Pie.  Oh okay the pie wins!

I don't see this as a maternity outfit - it has great slim lines and is one of the nicest combo patterns, especially that long sleeveless guru vest.  View B with the pants is so 70's.
Another great idea from TipNut - Make-Over Apron With Bib: {Vintage How-To}

It is made from an old dress and all the instructions are there on the link.  Next time I'm at a thrift store I will look for an old dress to do this with.

Butterick 4046 Flare-Back Short Coat - Optional Hood / ca. 1947 described as "This casual topper has a smart attached hood" - I want this coat.

Also want to feature an absolutely fab skirt that is a Making History Costume Pattern.  Butterick 4092 Misses' 1914 Basque Skirt 2003 which would be as lovely today as in 1914.

Simplicity 4399 Striking Wrap Around Dress 1960's with a great offset button effect.  Pick from two skirts - fit or flared.  I like it!

Vogue 5831 High Pocketed Dress / ca. 1946  has interesting pockets that open at the shoulder - hmmmmm.  I have never seen pockets quite like this before.  A rather plain dress otherwise.

Thanks once again to Nancy for another fun site to visit.  It's called TipNut.Com and it's not only informative but funny too.  Well okay maybe the humor isn't intended but some of the stuff made me giggle.

Do you have a favorite site to share?  Please email me at risingfeenix@yahoo.com.  Always looking for ideas!

Vogue 2810 Explosive "Corset" Top & Flowing Skirt 2003 and anybody who can wear this dress has my admiration.  I will bow down to you.  The top looks like a torture contraption - if you bend at the waist you jab yourself "personally" - and breathing just forget about it.

Thanks Nancy for the visual on that helpful tip you found on yesterday's  Household Hints & Tips website.  The site says if you put a mini-pad in your hat it acts as a sweatband.  But Nancy brought up the dilemma of some wind coming up and the hat blowing off.  Would the pad just stick to your forehead or go flying?  Either would be ugly LOL

Vogue 4117 Sophisticated One-Piece Dress 1960 A little bit blouson, folded loose collar or prim collar with big bow, a great flattering waist-hip design and lovely front inverted pleat.  Heaven on earth.  This one makes me sigh.

McCall's 5729 Irresistible Dress with Attached Petticoat 1960 what a nice neckline this dress has!  Drop the black gloves however - totally messes with my "chi" and not feng shui at all.

While researching how to survive in this poor economy I ran across an odd site which ranges from total survivalist to practical suggestions of just plain being prepared.  It's an EHow site:  How to Survive an Economic Meltdown

Some of the "more articles" and "links" - well I didn't know whether to laugh or get scared.
The main site is just mind-boggling.  I have spent several hours looking up How To stuff!

Simplicity 4174 Sunday Best Dress & Jacket / ca. 1953 a darling shirtwaist dress with vertical tucks.  I especially like the sleeveless dress - very summery.

Melodee at ML ORIGINALS has come thru again with a great reference site and I thank her.  There is a web site all about FABRIC!  Fabric ID, uses, tips, care, and great articles and columns about projects and uses of any kind of fabric you can imagine.  Check out and bookmark FABRICS.NET

Butterick 9135 Voluptuous Shirtwaist Sheath / ca. 1959 and is that middle lady cross-eyed? Sure looks like it.

While researching a pattern the other day got directed to the Customer's Guide to Movie Costumes and had alot of fun going through it.  Who knew they had so many costumes out there.  Alot of those 1500 patterns I've been going thru are costumes and some quite rare and collectible even though they are from the 2000's.  Oh I remember - I was actually looking for a pattern that came out after Grace Kelly wore a certain dress in "Rear Window" and I did find it but what a rare pattern - wish I had at least one.  I could just about retire if I did - smile.
