McCall's 6365 Awesome Retro Kitchen Package + Tranfers 1978 for the ultimate cook.  Kitchen Witch, Aprons, Toaster Covers, Blender Cover, Food Processor Cover, Potholder, Mitt, Handle Holder and all can be personalized and color coordinated. Makes me inspired to cook just looking at it.

I will be putting more patterns in tomorrow so you can check into the blog or the site to see what's new.  I don't always do Saturdays but got inspired.

New pattern for today is a Simplicity 5129 High Waisted Summer Dress 2004 a nice multi-sized number.  Sadly my girls don't stand up enough for this strapless beauty.  Invisible tape maybe?  There's not enough to help I'm afraid.

Off to an estate sale today!  Wish me luck!

TA DA! SALE DAY HAS ARRIVED!  Thought I would "shout" it out.  So starting right now 20% off all orders.  Just use coupon code SALEBLOG and happy shopping.  Sale ends Sunday nite.

Simplicity 8417 Mouth Watering Two-Piece Suit / Late 1940's or Early 1950's.  In spite of the ratty envelope this pattern is uncut.  This is one of those oddly numbered Simplicity patterns that just don't match up with the dates.  The style is 40's or super early 50's but no corresponding numbers in those eras that I have on "the list" - unless this is a Simplicity Designer line pattern and then it's 1951.  But it doesn't say designer.  I kept scratching my head and then just put both eras in to make sure.

New featured pattern:  McCall's 5417 Sexy Strappy Sundress 1991 with a crossover strapping  in the back and that sweetheart neckline that is a true heartbreaker.

Advance 9209 Jo Lee's Boudoir & Breakfast Ensemble / ca. 1959 and I want to know what law says this has to be for breakfast or boudoir only?  That "dress" is just too adorable to keep in the house.  It's got to be seen!

DON'T FORGET A SALE STARTS FOR YOU TOMORROW!  I will be offering you ladies 20% off instead of the regular sale of 15%.  When I post in the morning I'll put in the coupon code for you.  My other customers will have a separate coupon code.

Got  one of my changes done today.  I want to make it easier for someone looking for a hat pattern to not get every single pattern that has a hat but just the patterns that are hats.  Now I'm confusing myself - hee hee.  Some patterns have a whole wardrobe and then a hat thrown in.  Most times they are generic hats so only patterns that feature almost exclusively hats are included.  Looking for vintage or newer Hat Patterns just click the link.  Purses - hangbags are the next project.

McCall's 6852 Warm Loose Fitting Robe 1993 with nice trim but nothing fancy.  Just a practical robe that we all love to wear.  It comes in all sizes too which is handy.

Simplicity 7326 Kooky to Classy Beret Hats 1967 - I'm proclaiming this a Hat Day.  Couldn't decide which pattern to feature but since the second is a crochet pattern this came first.  I dare anyone to wear that wimple hat - hee hee.  My husband wouldn't walk next to me if I had that one.  Oh wait - since I only have shorts and flip flops in my wardrobe (it is AZ you know - land of 110+ temps) it would definitely clash.

"Ta Da" Second Hat Featured:  Workbasket 2-904 Vol. 9 No. 8 Crocheted Pillbox Hat / ca. 1944 and if you know how to crochet go for it!  Took me a while to track down the year on this one.  Finally found a website that has every single one listed and dated.  Whew!  This volume is so old it didn't even have the date on it.

Not a raving beauty or terribly unique or even hard to find this new featured pattern is so useful and right on for summer.  Making clothes isn't just for vintage clothing lovers it's finding the right pattern at the right time when you are in the right mood and I love this one!  A big gaudy fabric and voila no one will miss you in a crowd!  Simplicity 7116 Cute & Cool Dress or Jumper 1996

Got this blog in Sunday nite - heading out with some friends to the river early Monday and don't want to miss you seeing what's in!

Perfect beach or pool party - Pauloa Patterns 1009 Island Paradise Front Wrap Cover-Up 1970's.  Don't let summer slip away without this one.

Spent a bit of time this weekend sorting thru some very old fashion women's magazines from 1905 thru 1930's.  Only about 1/3 thru the stack.  A number were totally trashed but so many lovely pictures of fashions and both fun and beautiful advertisements.  The trashed magazines I cut up into little items of interest to send out with orders as a treat.  There were some actual patterns that I will list and then the complete magazines I'll put into the fashion magazines listings.  I would say it's a walk down memory lane but I'm not that old and it is still so amazing how fashion changes and then changes back.

Newish featured is Simplicity 7791 Sweet or Sexy Dress - Neckline & Skirt Variations 1992 with so many variables it's hard to decide which view is the prettiest.

A very unique and super rare item is listed that kind of creeped me out.  Thelma Jennewein No. 2020 Black Sambo & The Tiger 2-Headed Doll 1975 that is truly one of a kind.  It is referenced only once on the internet and no other copies available.  Check it out and also the link which is very interesting.  I know that "Sambo" has come to be a racial slur but in reality Sambo was from India and it's sad it has been distorted.  Truly a collectible.

What an eyeful this is!  McCall's 1903 Fantabulous "Lucy" Pinafore Apron 1954.  I researched the bat snot out of it and could not find one other anywhere on the internet.  It back fastens with buttons or snaps.  With a little adjustment could be made into a dress too.

Look for a newsletter and a sale next week.  Of course I will start the sale one day early for you ladies!  I will post Thursday morning with the coupon code and then officially start it on Friday morning.  We will be scanning like maniacs this week to get in a long weekend with lots of river time.

Run into alot of patterns with names on them.  Often the older ones have fun names that you don't hear that often - i.e. Verna etc.  Puts a picture in my mind of the previous owner.  Had an idea to start putting them in with the name in the title description. Butterick 9336 "Marie's" Wonderful Wartime Fitted Coat / ca. 1940 which I listed earlier this week.  So Marie - wherever you are - here is your old pattern!

New pattern for today is Simplicity 6377 Summer Slip Dress, Tunic, Top & Skirt 1990's keeping in that summer mode.

Mail Order 8330 Saucy "Janet Leigh" Shirtwaist Dress 1950's - for some reason Janet Leigh came to mind with this dress.  She had the figure to pull it off - remember Psycho?  Okay this is both sleeveless and short sleeved but who would make it with sleeves?  Insanity - oh wait - my arms aren't buff anymore so sleeved it is.

A big thank you to Domestic Divas for this link on not only making the most awesome ironing board cover but also finding this link that is an at home sewing tutorial site.  I am going to make this ironing board cover!  Jazzy Ironing Board Cover at Sew4Home.com

Lovely Marie gave me some wonderful tips to help me out with my kitty problem and I will be contacting a group here in Yuma that helps with feral cats.  Momma kitty wasn't here yesterday and I do worry.

New pattern is McCall's 4522 TNT Pants with Overskirt 2004 which I am considering making in a very light linen or gauze - that is if it doesn't sell right away - smile.  BTW I am determined to start a sewing class at Joanne's soon to brush up on my long lost skills.  I've got the bug now and some projects in mind.  Oh it's been so long and technology has changed LOL.

Anne Adams 4097 Magnifique' Dress & Bolero 1940's perfect for a warm summer evening.  I like the visual of her devoted husband buttoning her into this dress.  Sigh.  How could this dress not bring the romantic out in just about everyone?

Having some heartbreaking moments with a stray momma kitty with feral kittens living somewhere in the neighborhood.  Momma has been a pet and is craving attention but the 4 kitties are totally wild.  Momma is skin and bones and obviously not in good health but so sweet.  Of course out go the bowls of food and milk and water.  I called the only animal control in our area -  the "so-called" Human Society.  Here's the catch.  If I bring momma kitty in (I can pick her up) and trap the kittens they CHARGE $20 for each female and $10 for each male.  Huh?  So the cheapest fee for me is $60 if all the kittens are male.  Not in my budget unfortunately.  So much for Humane.  Feral cats are a huge problem everywhere but we have been lucky in our area until now.  What to do?  Any suggestions?  I have two very old cats and there's no way I can introduce a new cat that is sick and vet bills just not in my budget either.  I am so mad and frustrated!

New pattern pick is McCall's 7197 Swing Type Dress or Jumper 1994 a cute little tented number.  Don't stand over an air vent.

Anne Adams 4790 Depression Era Dress 1940's which is so "Grapes of Wrath" for anyone who might have had money in those days.  I had to look very carefully at the bodice because I thought at first there was a bolero that went with it but nooooooo.  It's a cleverly stitched bodice that only looks like a bolero jacket to the near blind - that's me.  Just kidding.  It's the sleepyseeds that haven't been washed from my eyes - where's my coffee?

A big thanks to Nancy - you know who you are (grin) - for snatching up that special apron pattern that I was going to feature today until she bought it before I could blog.  She is so sneaky quick!

Since we are still in the summer mood this Simplicity 5956 Island Vacation Dress or Tops & Skirt 2002 makes me wish for a plane ticket to somewhere - anywhere - as long as there's a beach I can stroll on, or a mall I can walk around near a beach.

Getting an early start today (for me) and going hunting for some patterns today.  It's not like I don't have bins and bins in the garage but it's those special ones that might show up.  Wish me luck!

Advance 1460 Flirty Thirties Panties 1930's one of a number of 30's and 40's lingerie patterns I have found lately.  No one really thinks you can wear these without some kind of panty line showing - eh!  I more picture them as part of a silky pajama set.

A delicious sailor collar dress is listed and sadly no envelope but there is a picture of the front so you can see how it looks.  But!  While researching found a mention of this pattern along with the greatest picture of Jayne Mansfield - what a eye popper.  It's hard to picture this dress on her until you actually see it then wow.  McCall's 4395 Jayne Mansfield Sailor Collar Dress / ca. 1956.

When looking for a cooler haircut for this hot summer I found Style Tips 101 that has everything from clothes to hairstyles and skin care.  Found a neat trick of poofing up a flat head of hair by spraying your hair upside down at the back instead of top down.  Then it stays poofy.  Voila.  Going to try their strawberry yogurt face mask tonite!

Featured new pattern is Style 2571 Knockout Wrap Blouse & Skirt 1995 and is quite sultry IMO.  Nice combo of wrap tops and that skirt is so graceful.

Hope you all had a great weekend.  A bit sore from all the exercise I got.  Just kidding!  We played Wii games with some friends for about 4 hours and about threw my back out and pulled some muscles.  If you haven't played with Wii it's a hoot.

Anne Adams 4536 Superb Offset Fastened Dress 1971.  This has an offset closure with a front zipper.  Add some pretty trim and make a "plain" dress even prettier.

Decided to work on a new concept for making searches easier.  It will take months to fully implement but it will be coming.  For anyone looking for only a "top" (blouse, shirt, top) I will be putting a link in so you don't have to search thru everything.  I'll be doing the same for jackets, pants, skirts.  It will be easier to mix and match - find a blouse and then look for a skirt pattern etc.  I'll let you know when I finish.

Simplicity 5242 Misses' "Red Hat" Hats & Bags 2003 found this in the deep recesses of my garage storage and think it's too cute for words.  A bit "British" lady looking.

Got ambitious and did a listing for today.  Then spent the evening watching Tivo'd TV shows and looking thru old patterns.  Some real beauties coming at your later this week and month!

Marian Martin 9403 Got It All Wrap Dress 1970's that takes that great wrap look and adds a drape.  Yum.

Nothing fancy here for the featured "new" pattern just all around useful.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer weekend.

McCall's 2598 Delightful Hostess Dress, Top & Pants 1970 - oh those were the days.  Brocade trim a nice touch on what looks like a caftan.

Had a lovely email from a customer who bought a costume pattern.  She has a site featuring "repaints" which takes fashion dolls and makes them into characters from movies, etc.  Fascinating!  Here site is called My Immortals and it's a fun please to browse through.  I hadn't heard of this before but it's a big world of collectors out there.

Featured new pattern is a McCall's 4656 Trendy Jacket, Top, Bias Skirt, Pants & Flower 2004 which is a Woman's Day Collection Pattern.  I have this in a number of sizes if you like!

Lovely day at the river - even though it got me behind in my listings and bloggings.  Our friends Tom and Maria had yesterday off so of course we couldn't resist!  Here are two pics of our great day!  We pulled the boats up onto the sand (our boat is off to the right).  We set up our EZ-Up shade, set our chairs in the water and swam and ate.  Got up to 115 degrees but who cares when you are wet and cool.  Before packing up Maria and I put our life vests on and proceeded to float down the river for a few miles before Tom and Harry brought the boats to pick us up.  It was wonderful!  Oh until they drove the boats wildly around us swamping us with waves.  Funny guys!

My friend Maria is on the right.  That's me in the funny hat and Maria's husband Tom.  Top pic has Maria, Tom and my husband Harry.  Dang no wonder clothes are a hassle for me - I feel like I am busting out of that stupid bathing suit.
We are so blessed to live here in this lovely state.

Okay now on to work -  Prominent Designer A546 Sensational Dress & Overblouse 1970's one of those lucky finds.  Got two in different sizes yay.   Don't you just love that low waist and pleated bottom.  Sharp. No new one today as I am behind and need to get some scannings done for tomorrow.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Listing early because I am getting up early.  We have a fishing and swimming day planned with friends and why do guys like to get out there when the sun is still sleeping?  What is this?  Can't we fish when it's light?  Sigh.  Maria and I will just nap until the sun comes up.
Advance 5361 Straight as an Arrow Skirt 1940's an easy One Yard - One Piece - One Hour Skirt.  Up my alley.  One word comes to mind "neat" -

The new feature is Simplicity 4359 Free Spirited Poncho, Capelet & Hat 2005 a fun combo for "free spirits" - well yawn - off to bed so we can get up early - like in the dark - sigh

McCall's 2377 Arabian Nights' Burnoose 1970 is a pattern I had a long time ago and was surprised to find it again because it is very hard to find.  What an exotic look it has!

Simplicity 4970 Appliqued Lady Pillows 2004 is my newish pick and though not rare or hard to find it is so dang cute!  Don't let the category Home Decor Patterns throw you off.  Anything that is for the house is in there including these crafty type patterns.

Simplicity 4813 French Cuff Secretary Blouse 1950's

A big thank you to a young lady who emailed me a picture of a blouse she had made from one of my patterns.  I think you will agree it turned out beautifully!

She made View 3 with that little arrow button band.  Good job!

Mail Order 9449 Wonderful Offset Closure Dress 1960's which has a front zipper closure.  Interesting!  Great wrap affect.  I suppose you could substitute buttons or frog closures if you didn't want the zipper.

Featured "new" is Burda 4772 Edgy Asymmetrical Jumpsuit 1990's a fun summer look while summer is still here. Though cute can you picture having to hit a public ladies' room?  Being a one piece there would be some unique contortions to be made to prevent not only your body but your clothes from touching ANYTHING!  Ewwwww!

If you ever try to pull something up or research on my site and a message comes up that the index is being rebuilt give it a good 5 minutes before trying again.  I have to do this about once a day in order for the search to accurately pull new things up.

Thank you all so much for all the prayers, emails and cards I received after the loss of my husband's brother.  Your kindness has been so very appreciated.  God Bless!

Prominent Designer A547 Man's "Safari" Shirt 1970's heyyyyy baby!!  What's yer' sign?  Today this is a fun retro fashion but in those days it was a total nerd that wore these - or maybe in my own mind.  I was never "hip" - I wore jeans, tennis shoes and t-shirts as a steady uniform for cleaning stalls and riding horses.  How did I ever get married?  Oh yeah - my hubby rode horses too.  Lucky for me!  So the smooth men who would wear this shirt were a reverse magnet for me.

On the newer side:  Simplicity 8172 Flashy Dress - Very Full Circular Skirt 1987 and luckily I have two copies so all sizes covered. Cute contrast insert!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  My next listing / posting will be Monday.  We'll be spending some quiet time on the river for some much needed mental recuperation.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Vogue 8347 Huggy Dress & Outstanding Jacket 1954 - okay the dress is nice but that wasp waist jacket with the darting is wicked!  Looks a bit militaristic to me but maybe it's just that I live in a military town - the Marine Corps Air Station is here in Yuma.  Speaking of which we are due to get the new jump jet (Harrier) soon we hope.  The next air show should be awesome - and noisier LOL.

The slightly newer featured pattern is a summer must.  McCall's 9095 Upscale Jacket & Sheath Dress 1984 which on the East coast is much needed.  It was 108 in Yuma yesterday and tomorrow due to be 110.  We just got a teasing call from some friends who are out at the Colorado River today begging us to pack up and head out.  Wish we could - sigh.  Favorite thing to do other than fishing is tubing:  Colorado River Tubing

Vogue 8488 Perky Dress & Jacket 1970's - this outfit reminds me of Marlo Thomas' show That Girl.  Cute wide collar and fitted bodice.  Never an out of fashion look.

My "new" pattern pick is a Simplicity 4955 Robe, Pants & Shorts, Nightgown, Camisole & Blanket 2004 which is one I've had before and it sold quickly.  A great mix and match nighttime package.

Spool Cotton Book No. 200 Hats, Bags & Accessories 1943 a can't resist knit and crochet book with some awesome hats and bags inside.  Wish I could knit or crochet.

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th.  We went to a friend's house, sat in their pool (it was about 107 here yesterday so the pool was awesome) and drank too many home made sweet teas (vodka infused with tea & sugar mixed with lemonade and quite delicious and deadly).  Have a headache today but at least that's all - grin.  The economy put the brakes on the local fairground fireworks so that was sad.

Not terribly new but this Vogue 1082 Pretty as a Picture Blouse 1980's caught my eye.  Modest but gorgeous.

Making a Dress At Home / Farmers' Bulletin 1944 a fun booklet for those of you who like sewing books or pamphlets.  Some great Farm Lady style dresses featured.

In case you don't check in on the weekend - because I rarely list on the weekend - I will be doing a listing tomorrow to make up for my days away.

Vintage Sewing Reference Library has so much sewing info I could spend days - and I will when I get the chance.  I found it when researching vintage sewing books.  A wealth of info.  Check it out.

Simplicity 7943 Bohemian Shirt-Dress or Long Shirt 1987 is my newish featured pattern.  A super casual laid back style.  And it's a Jiffy Pattern!  Simplicity Jiffy Patterns are often not just easy but stylish too.  Right up my alley - well the easy part is.

Simplicity 7956 Flower Power Pantdress 1968 to bring back memories of Laugh In and Love In's.  One of a couple of fun 60's patterns in today for that walk down memory lane.

McCall's 4110 Blue Ribbon Jacket and Skirt 1989 a newer and nifty straight jacket and straight or pleated skirt.  Yum.

Discovered a while back that if you are doing some research and have a question you can put a question in Google i.e., How do I can tomatoes? and question and answer sites come up.  Very cool.  Well I found a site that specializes in just such a thing!  It's Answerbag.com and I had some fun with it and hope you do too.
