McCall 8222 Skirt in a Class by Itself 1950

Another great idea sent in by Nancy to make notebooks not just more "useable" but also more personal and my own idea is to use this idea with recipes.  Don't we all have a folder stuck off somewhere with recipes we've clipped?  Notebook with Envelope Pockets

Featured new:  Simplicity 6874 Sharp Jacket, Top & Skirt 2009 that has figure friendly shaping.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.  Wanted to do some yard work but it was too breezy for that - just when I want to sweep the patio along comes the wind.  I swear before next weekend the patio will be swept clean so we can sit outside now that it is so nice and warm outside.

Simplicity 3555 Shirtwaist Dress with Belled Skirt / ca. 1960

This shirtwaist dress brings country western singing to mind:  Simplicity 3555 Shirtwaist Dress with Belled Skirt / ca. 1960 or the TV image of the perfect housewife!  I'd prefer a gentler skirt without the stiffy slip under it.  Remember sitting down and it would poof in the front so you'd have to hold it down?  Okay I'm scaring myself ...

We had a very nice holiday weekend and fortunately our plans didn't include going camping or to the river.  The wind blew and blew and we had a blowing sand and dust hazard warning up until yesterday.  So we went shopping and to the movies and had dinner out.   We saw the new Pirates movies and so enjoyed it.  Yesterday we went 4-wheeling and were out almost 8 hours.  Here is what we saw:  An owl's nest in a Saguero cactus with an owl peeking out, a golden eagle, vultures, roadrunners, lots of birds, and the best was a gray fox!  Unfortunately in spite of the perfect weather snakes.  Really - I like snakes.

Featured  new is:  McCall's 5751 Dishy Straight Pullover Dress 2008 an attractive sheath style that would be super in a red flowered fabric - kind of 50's looking IMO

Sale ends Monday Night.  All paid orders will go out Tuesday or Wednesday

Featured vintage pattern is Mail Order 4996 Unforgettable Cape Collar Dress 1963 which though not pictured also comes with a "3/4 sleeve" -  Who would put a sleeve on this beauty - no way Jose!

Nancy my dear you always come up with the funnest websites - like your email today with About.Com featuring help for people who lose their keys.  It's bookmarked for me to view later today.  I need help!  About.Com is a fascinating site - truly tells you anything you might think you want to know.  I've bookmarked the entire site under my "Dictionaries" bookmark.  It will get used for sure.

Featured new is another summer dress pattern.  I must be thinking heat as it's been consistently around 100 lately and I'm sorting thru my t-shirts & tank tops and shorts for cool wear.  McCall's 5800 Summertime Party Dress 2009

I won't be blogging again until Tuesday or listing again until Tuesday.  My husband has Monday off so I want it to be a real long weekend.  Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!

Memorial Weekend Sale Starts Tonight at Midnight!
20% off all orders when you use Coupon Code HONOR at checkout.
Sale ends Monday Night.  All paid orders will go out Tuesday or Wednesday

Butterick 2365 Pouch Pocketed Skirt / ca. 1963 which is not the fanciest vintage pattern listed today but don't you just love that pouch pocket!  Like a small handwarmer.

No plans for the long holiday weekend except making sure I turn the alarm off.  We may go out in the Prowler on Saturday and make a trip over to Wellton for lunch.  We'll go thru "Woodcutter's Pass" to the other side.  It's a rather grueling and slow trip but fun.  Then we like to cut off to the railroad tracks and follow them and the canal home.  It's a long day but lots of fun.  We often see alot of birds, lizards, and other wildlife.  I hope you all have a safe and fun holiday weekend.

Featured new is:  McCall's 5833 Spirited Strappy Dress 2009 a "smocky" looking dress just right for a pool party.

Modes Royale Glorious ROXANNE Hostess Apron 1950's

Stay tuned tomorrow for the coupon code that will start on Friday for the long Memorial Weekend holiday sale.  It will be for you readers at 20% off.  I'll put in the code tomorrow afternoon when I blog.

The featured pattern is an extremely rare one.  I researched it and found ONE on another site for much more than I am listing it for.  Sounds funny to say mine is a steal LOL considering what I listed it for.  Modes Royale Glorious ROXANNE Hostess Apron 1950's and is it the bomb or what?!  Now I wish I had the pattern for that Some Like It Hot wiggle dress.  Who cooks wearing that?

Temps finally hovering around the 100 degree mark.  It sounds odd to say but hoping the heat stays around and goes up too.  It's not fun to go to the river and swim until the temps have been up alot and the water has warmed up.

I haven't turned up many 40's patterns lately but a number of 50's and 60's and some fun 70's too.  I'll have to turn up the heat on the hunt.

Featured new is a true summer delight that I originally listed in April and it sold quickly but the buyer never paid so I put a new date in because it is so special.  Simplicity 8762 Irresistible Summer Dress & Overskirt 1999

McCall's 7896 Just Right Jacket, Skirt & Blouse 1965

As I am sure with all of you my thoughts and prayers are with all the victims in Joplin, MO as well as all the people suffering due to the flooding.  It's too much to even comprehend.

Makes me feel ridiculous to complain about the wind - then more wind - and still more wind.  No hope for any good hair day.  Don't even think about a hat - it would be down the street before you know it.  Gone like the wind ... but at least my house is still standing.

McCall's 7896 Just Right Jacket, Skirt & Blouse 1965 a neat as a pin look.  It has that boxy look so popular in the 1960's.  The Jackie Kennedy 1960's Suit Pattens have remained a staple and must have addition to any retro wardrobe.

Featured new is Butterick 5355 Frothy Top & Sash 2009 a so lovely "Bohemian" style.  Whether over a pair of jeans or over a long slim skirt this is a winner and I have TWO!

I'll be having a big sale over the Memorial weekend with 15% off for everyone but you readers!  I'll start the sale on Friday and have it go thru Monday night.  I'll post on Thursday what your coupon code for 20% off will be.

Simplicity 7347 Dandy Big Collared Jacket & Pants 1976

Yes there will be a sale on Friday!  All day midnight to midnight.  It will be 20% off ANY and ALL orders with no restrictions.  Use coupon code DANDY at checkout.  Have fun!  So I don't forget to put the code in I pin a note to my pillow!

Simplicity 7347 Dandy Big Collared Jacket & Pants 1976 and you can toss the pants because they are ho hum but the jacket is so casual and cute.  The longer collar just fits!  I have two of these in different sizes.  Got a lot of 1970's Simplicity Patterns along this line that I've been listing this week and a bunch more to go.

I've been a fan of Chetta B since I discovered her.  Chetta B patterns have a certain flair that blows my skirt up.

Featured new is - of course a Chetta B:  Butterick 5207 First Date Dress 2008 and it's always fun to visualize someone wearing this for a blind date and she walks into a nightclub or bar looking for her date.  It's short enough to be sexy but high necked for modesty too.

Simplicity 9799 Fashionista Fitted Dress & Cape 1980

My favorite listing for today is Simplicity 9799 Fashionista Fitted Dress & Cape 1980 not as "old" as I normally like to list but opted to put my fav in just for me!  The cape coat affect is wonderful - not a plaid fan and the brown and tan a bit understated IMO.  I think of a deep red -

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and that for those of you in the east and midwest that the rains and floods have abated.  My prayers are with you.

We have "adopted" a child in Kenya to sponsor and are thrilled.  Some members of our church recently went on their yearly trip to help in a very poor village and orphanage and they are working with the Tumaini International Ministries to help children with their tuition, school fees, uniforms and books, food, clothing, health care, Christian camp week and counseling.  Our sponsored child is a young lady named Faith who is 13.  Older children are harder to get sponsored so we picked one of the older kids on purpose and her name just grabbed me.  So many children there are in need of sponsors and if you were ever thinking of giving this gift of life just contact them online.

I spent 3 weeks in Kenya in 1981 and loved the country and the people.  When our church went there it brought back some lovely and also sad memories.  The abject poverty is overwhelming and once you see something like that you never take what you have for granted again.

Featured new is another catalog pattern I got from Joni (bless her heart!):  Simplicity 7323 Oversized Shirts with Shirttail Options 1980's a great loose fitting casual shirt that can have a long shirttail in back or back and front.  Looks so comfortable.

Vogue 9785 Quirky Fashion of a Skirt OR Cape 1959

Friday SALE coming at you starting at Midnight tonite.  Buy any one 1980's pattern and get 20% off your entire order.  Use coupon code LUVPATS during checkout.

Vogue 9785 Quirky Fashion of a Skirt OR Cape 1959 and this "combo" is a first for me.  It says this is a skirt "or" a cape but it also says you can wear the cape as a skirt.  Now that's what I call unique!  The "double breasted" look is so very pretty on the skirt.

I am such a dope.  I had an odd posting by a friend and thought "what is this?" and clicked on it to view it and OMG it sent the link to everyone in my Facebook friends list.  It's a virus exclusive to Facebook dammit!  If any of you got it I apologize - my bad as they used to say.  I knew better than to click on something but thought it was Facebook and friends send stuff.  Wrong.  I immediately put in a posting with a huge WARNING WARNING on it and hope that at least stops it on their end.  Grrrrrrrr makes me want to do a smack down on the creator.

Received a number of neat 60's and 70's patterns in the mail yesterday.  Featured vintage pattern is: Simplicity 9287 Gala Dress with Surplice Bodice 1979 for those of you who are looking for a very special occasion dress.  Nice combination of vintage and  modern just right for today too.

Sue Burnett 1443 Double Breasted Dress & Tie Belt 1972

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day whether you or your own mother were celebrated!  I so miss my mother on this special day.  If you have lost your mother you will know it was a day with some sadness to it too.  Luckily I have a simply awesome MIL who I adore.  My husband and I took her and her BFF Cecelia (she doesn't have any family close to take her) to the Asian Star and we had a hoot.  Carol and Cecelia are so funny and they had all the tables around us in stitches.  Carol says she can make a friend in a bathroom and it's true.  I drank too much Sake and was buzzed enough that I didn't even freak out when Carol drove us home.  I usually swear to never get in a car that she's behind the wheel of - truly.  Feeling sluggish today - grin.  Didn't get my listings done until just now but they are up and ready.

Sue Burnett 1443 Double Breasted Dress & Tie Belt 1972 and though it is early 1970's it still retains the late 1960's "Mad Men" styling.  I thought at first glance that the flaps were pockets but they are strictly decorative to pull the tie belt thru.  Just plain like this one.

A friend did a posting on Facebook about her nephew's business and if you have a dog check it out!  Each doggie toy is assigned a "color" and each color designates a charity that some of the proceeds will go to.  It has created quit a buzz in Southern California and even was written about in the Orange County Register.  I bought a Disc for my "niece" Jane - it's a dog water bowl that doubles as a "frisbee" and is "durable" - we'll be checking it out with a very rambunctious yellow lab named Jane.

Here is the link:  Dura Doggie / Durable Dog Toys

Butterick 6836 Race Day Double Breasted Dress 1993 which I have multiple copies of so you can pick your size.  I had one size already but added the others.  It has just a great shape to it.  Not just because it is figure hugging but the lines are nice.  Good for a summer event that needs a special dress.

Butterick 5283 Down Home Jumper & Jumpsuit 1970's

Butterick 5283 Down Home Jumper & Jumpsuit 1970's right up my alley for casual comfort.  I picture wearing that jumper with a short sleeved t-top and heading out with my wheeled basket for the swap meet or outdoor market to pick up some fruit and veggies. Jane Tise patterns are very sought after and I've had a few from time to time that always go quickly.

Don't feel like sewing and looking for a vintage item and can't find it?  well the Antique & Vintage Dress Gallery has some super items.

Featured new is McCall's 8133 Charmer Dress with Swinging Skirt 1996 which I have in a number of sizes (Sandra snagged the 14-18 though you lucky lady!).  It has a 50's feel to it - maybe something to do with the bodice.

Butterick 7700 Stupendous Silhouette Trumpet Skirt 1950's

Had a nice "mini" vacation and got lots figured out for Quickbooks.  Actually I just put all the info in and if it's wrong then the accountant at least has all the stuff.  Next year I'll have it down LOL - can't they make it "simple"???  Noooooooo
Featured vintage pattern is Butterick 7700 Stupendous Silhouette Trumpet Skirt 1950's which I had one a while back and it went out lickity split.  If this is your dream skirt run don't walk!

Kwik Sew 173 Ladies' One Piece Halter Swimsuit 1970's

Short but sweet listings the last two days!  Looking forward to getting my patterns organized and bookkeeping straightened out starting tomorrow thru next Wednesday.  No blogs or listings but orders will still be processed.  Starting my sale tonite at midnight so for you readers a 20% off sale until I am back!  When midnight hits get yourself a cup or two of coffee and starting shopping.  Use coupon code TIME4ME at checkout.

Certainly had older and more "vintage" but decided that the featured vintage pattern today is:  Kwik Sew 173 Ladies' One Piece Halter Swimsuit 1970's.  After all it's still spring and summer is rushing toward us (or we wish).

With gas prices skyrocketing I have taken to doing my mail first and listings second so that I can give them to the mailman instead of driving them to the post office.  Saves alot on gas.    So from now on listings will be late morning or early afternoon unless I can get ahead with this time off and start doing them the night before.  Yeah right LOL.  Like you I am trying to cut costs -

McCall's 3807 College Gal's Skirts with Matching Sweater Trims 1956 and McCall's 9774 Perfect Skirt for the Retro Diva 1954

Two great vintage skirts competing for featured pattern today.  Couldn't decide to both are here for you to drool over:

I've been wracking my brains to figure out how to find the time to do the things I need with the business, i.e., finish importing and filling in all the Quickbooks stuff and also cleaning out the older patterns on my site and figuring out if I am to keep them and "relist" or throw away.  That takes alot of research and just plain time and deciding.  Soooo I will be taking some "vacation" time Friday thru the following Wednesday.  All buyers other than you readers will get 15% off but you will have 20% off.  I will post on Thursday the coupon code for you readers!

Featured new is one more of the catalog patterns from Joni: Vogue 9910 Luncheon or Dinner Dress 1980's - this look is just so so classy!

Simplicity 9359 Groovin' Dress or Tunic & Shorts 1971

In the Summertime Simplicity 9359 Groovin' Dress or Tunic & Shorts 1971 - this pattern just screams "Hippie"

Hope you all had a lovely Easter.  We went to "sunrise" service and then the regular service.  A little surprised that the "sunrise" service started at 7 a.m.  Wow - do they think we are lazybones?  No matter it was lovely and moving.

Growing older has its benefits but one of them is NOT moving beyond an Easter Basket.  Filled with chocolate bunnies, Peeps (my personal favorite), colored eggs, and jelly beans.  Oh and don't forget the Easter Egg hunt.  We had a huge back yard and lots of nooks and crannies to hide eggs.  I can remember finding eggs months later LOL that my mom had hidden and forgotten about.

Several "new" were up to be featured today but I picked the one that I have a number of in varying sizes.  I always hate to disappoint with a great looking pattern in just a particular size.  This should suit most of you!  McCall's 7666 Strappy Backed Dress or Jumper 1995

Don't forget the sale continues until midnight tonite.  Buy any one pattern from July 2010 or August 2010 or September 2010 and get 25% off your entire order!  There are so many lovely patterns that are so far back that they get forgotten and I need to clean out the older ones and put in newer ones.  Use coupon code OLDIES at checkout to get that great discount.

Advance 3482 Fashion Maven Dress - Right Out of "Mad Men"! 1964
a rare pattern that I happened to find another of and bought it!  This is a Junior Miss one but check next week for a Misses' Size 14 Bust 34.

While shopping last week I came across 4 Elle magazines.  At 10 cents each I snagged them just to look thru.  There was a blurb in one about a 1960's model named Veruschka.  Do you remember her?  I did and recall she was so tall and exotic looking.  Here is a link to some of her modeling pictures (some are so spectacular you want to frame them and put them on a wall) if you remember her or are curious and I've included one of her pics that is so memorable to me:

She was truly Iconic in the full sense of the word.

Vogue 1865 Dress with Dishy Bodice Variations 1980's

Sorry to miss a few days - since my husband went back to work and business has grown so much I am doing it all by myself - whine whine whine.  After scanning and researching and listing and packing up packages, emailing customers I've been collapsing in a heap on the floor.  Have you ever read Eloise?  She was one of my childhood heroes along with Nancy Drew.  I scanned Eloise to show you how I look at the end of morning listing.

If you haven't read the Eloise books and you have little girls please buy them!  Your daughter will love them.  I still have my original Eloise book and it is beat up so badly from me dragging it around and reading it over and over.

Won't forget the Friday Sale this week.  Pinned a note to my pillow!  If you buy any one pattern from the months of July - August - September get 25% OFF all of your order!  Use coupon code OLDIES during checkout after midnight tonite until midnight Friday.  I am trying to clean out those months to make room for new stuff.  Often the older listings get forgotten and truthfully if I don't delete them I relist them if they are super nice and are 8 or 9 months old.  Here are the links for those months and there are some treasures in them.  JULY 2010 and AUGUST 2010 and SEPTEMBER 2010

Not super vintage but couldn't pass up one of the Catalog Vogue patterns that Joni sold me:  Vogue 1865 Dress with Dishy Bodice Variations 1980's and if you still have a summer dress that you need one of these should fit the bill.  The "wrap" halter is nice but I favor the tank top one.  I'd better get to lifting those weights to firm up the flabby arms that seem to have appeared overnight.  I swear I woke up the other morning and when I got up my underarms stayed on the bed.

Simplicity 1158 Enchanting Full Skirted Dress / ca. 1955

Another awesome batch of catalog patterns arrived here from Joni.  Just glanced at them but they are great - I find it odd that most of the patterns that are "catalog" I rarely find them on the internet.  Have to wonder if they were sold mostly thru the manufacturer and not sent to the stores.  Does anyone know?  I find this is as true for Vogue as Simplicity.

Featured new is:  Simplicity 8762 Irresistible Summer Dress & Overskirt 1999 - there's something about overskirts that are so attractive and feminine.  The bodice shaping is so pretty - almost a "bustier" look about it though it isn't at all "sexy" like a bustier usually is supposed to be.  Wholesome is the word I was looking for!

Simplicity 6291 Amazing Pullover Top & Skirt 1974

Simplicity 6291 Amazing Pullover Top & Skirt 1974 with jut the neatest skirt - insets that make it super full and makes you want to spin in circles so it flares all around you or pick up the front and stamp your feet in a wild dance!  Oh my it's too early in the day for that much imagination.

Missed yesterday sorry.  Learning Quickbooks is testing my patience and resilience.  When I finish this one of two things will happen.  I will sign into Quickbooks and try again or put my head in the dryer.

Butterick 2524 Haute Couture Box Jacket, Overblouse & Skirt / ca. 1963

Featured vintage pattern is one I had a while back and was pleased to find another:  Butterick 2524 Haute Couture Box Jacket, Overblouse & Skirt / ca. 1963

Had to do quite a bit of work to clean it up to post.  It was very "foxed" - and didn't scan very well.  Sometimes I pass over patterns that look too icky but this was uncut!  Very svelte looking - everything has a slim lined style.

Thank you Nancy for a trip down memory lane talking about our pets.  Got down on all fours and dug thru old photo albums to find a few old pictures of my old mare (who passed away a few years ago at age 34) and a lovely palomino stallion we had for a few years.

Thought I'd share and yes that is me in 1978 and 1979 hee hee.  Totally Brady Bunch bubble head permanent hair.  Sometimes a walk down memory lane is more like a nightmare of fashion.

My mare was 6 or 7 in these pictures and me well I was pushing 30.  I had Robin since she was born in 1972.  Hand raised her which was so fun but alot of hard work as you can imagine.  She was very personable and loved people.  She could care less about other horses or animals she thought she was human.  Never mean or cranky just a stubborn streak but still sweet.  The perfect horse who even if she was uncertain would listen to me and trust me.  Okay I sure miss that time of my life.

The stallion was a well known (at that time) Palomino - Quarter horse stud that we had always admired and when the chance came we snatched him up.  We intended to breed him with my mare but two horses were too much work and so we gave him up to another fan of his after about 2 years.  Working full time, being married and having two horses to ride and exercise and care for was over the top but it was still hard to give him up.  The most gentle and easy going horse I've ever had especially for a stallion.  I used to ride him with a hackamore not with a bit and even bareback he was so well behaved.  My mare was a handful and when friends would visit I'd let them ride him.  Wasn't he a beauty!

Featured new is:   Simplicity 5191 Sexy Shirtdress, or Tunic & Pants 2004 - the reason I say "Sexy" is because the blond on the cover sure looks like Paris Hilton and makes that rather nice shirtdress a true hottie.  There is just something "neat" and tidy looking about these outfits.  I like them.
