A very successful sale weekend - so much so I have spent the last two days packaging and only today was I able to list after scanning this morning.  Whew - it's nice to sell so much but dang packaging is a pain when rushed to get out orders when I know buyers can't wait LOL -

Visualize the old movie based on Wiliam Faulkner's book The Long Hot Summer - Mail Order 4579 Retro Starlet's Full Slip 1960's and this slip fits right in.  Wish I was wearing it right now - it's 113 degrees outside and getting hotter.  Truly a long, hot, summer.

Vogue 9476 Flared Caftan Dress or Top 1980's or maybe late 1970's it's hard to tell.  Not a big fan of the long or the short one but the middle one is "just right" - a neat "tent" dress.  My favorite type of fashion to wear on a hot day here in Yuma.  Let's the air flow - ahhhhhhh.  Makes me think of cruising a farmer's market or swap meet.  Cash & chapstick in one pocket, driver's license, checkbook & credit cards in another.  Keeping hands free to peruse the merchandise.

This era of Simplicity patterns have remained very sought after.  Not a fan of the jumpsuit but I'm not a fan of any jumpsuit.  Too much trouble to get in and out of - and I always think of things like using the bathroom and things like that.  Too practical LOL

Simplicity 8834 Zippy Blouse & Tank Top 1970 is the featured vintage pattern.  Okay it's not an oldie moldie but I just like it.  It's just so standard yet so useable.  Plain tank top or overblouse or plain or fancy.  Single color or flowered - I can picture making a bunch of these at one time.

Wild ride on Wall Street this week.  So glad we are out of it now.  Couldn't take the stress anymore with the global economy so shaky too.  Now is the time to start making our own clothes and save on money for sure.  A financial guy I listen to alot mentioned last year that a business to get into was sewing because this was a direction people would go back to when the economy worsens.  Made my head pop up for sure.  Alot of my customers mention this is why they are looking for patterns so at least my business hasn't been suffering yet and hope that the positive trend for me continues.  Sigh -

Had a super weekend at the river with some friends.  Spent all day Friday and Saturday camped on a sandbar with a picnic lunch and lots of snacks.  Our friends had 3 jetskis and oh my gosh that is so fun.  It was a first time for me but having ridden motorcycles, quads and snowmobiles I felt quite at home and ripped around madly.  Here's a picture of my husband and of our "campsite"

McCall's 7728 Thrilling Keyhole Neckline Dress with Two Skirts 1965 - one of the few patterns that I prefer the full skirt over the slim skirt.  The pleating around the waistline makes it fall beautifully - hope it would turn out that good when it is made.  Can't go wrong with a keyhold neckline either.  Just a little peek -

Trying to figure out what to do next week.  Hmmmm.  Mother in law returning 11 p.m. Monday night in Phoenix, AZ.  I will leave very early Monday and go shopping at all the thrift stores in town and then pick her up.  Stay overnight - come home early Tuesday.  I'll have to get the mail ready to ship on Sunday and new listings in Sunday night and then not post or mail on Tuesday.  Okay that's the plan .....

Simplicity 3712 Super Skirt, Weskit & Stole / ca. 1951 an uncut absolutely darling outfit!  That poor envelope has seen better days though.

Taking the MIL to the airport in Phoenix-Mesa this morning (her plane leaves at 5 p.m.) and will get to go to a few of my favorite thrift stores in all the world - Savers.  Probably won't do a post tomorrow and may not even get patterns in - all depends on how late I get home.  Note to self - take an ice chest with lots of water!

Featured new so caught my eye that when I researched it for pricing and information I found a few others and bought them up to fill in a sizing gap.  I should have them in about a week so if you love this dress and it's not your size just wait a week and check back.

Simplicity 1716 "Graceful Empire Line" Dress & Jacket /ca. 1956 a style that makes me want to twirl in circles on a sidewalk until I get dizzy and fall down.  That wouldn't take long because when I even look at a merry-go-round and I get nauseated. 

 I just had an email from one of my customers who is very brave and has made some really old patterns.  She had a question about care of old and fragile patterns and I thought that the Pattern Rescue site might be worth posting here too.  For those of you who not only sew but keep the old patterns they have alot of good info for care and repair.

I will be listing late Sunday night for Monday and then skipping Tuesday unless I get lucky.  The Mother-In-Law is going to visit some friends in Canada and I take her to the airport in Phoenix on Monday.  It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive so that will be a long day.

Last week was an awesome week for finding some fabulous 40's thru 60's patterns.  I am actually ahead for once.  After going to SoCal for my sister's wedding on July 3rd and then spending the 4th there as well I came home and had to face a major catch up phase.

My sister's wedding to Richard and the party that followed will go high on list of "best parties" ever.  The best party ever was actually Richard's 50th birthday party two years ago.  The wedding went off flawlessly.  I gave my sister away and Richard's daughter Katie gave her dad away.  I only cried once.

Had to make a serious business decision early this week.  Sadly I am unable to continue shipping free to Canada with the purchase of 3 or more patterns.  Costs in so many areas have gotten too high and I have cut back in many ways without affecting the quality or care in shipping.  My apologies to my many Canadian customers - this was done with much soul searching and sadness.  The rest of shipping both here and international remain the same.  Here is a link to the new shipping fees to Canada:  Shipping Link

Thank you to LaRaLil for the nice blog in response to a vintage pattern order she received last week. Okay I don't know what it says but she swears it's a compliment.  

 Finally have our hot hot hot weather.  It is 110 right now but I am shivering in the air conditioning inside.  Don't dare turn it down or off though as it's hard for the A/C to play catch up with the temperatures.  Got to get the boat ready for the river.  Maybe I'll get my husband to get it out this evening so we can polish and wax and clean it all and get it set to go fishing and swimming.  The Colorado River here is so dang cold that unless it's been over 105 for a consistent period of time the river stays very cold.  Should be nice and warm now.  July and August are perfect for swimming and tubing if not for fishing.  We take our inner tubes, a big float with an ice chest full of water and beer and soda and maybe some margaritas and some snack foods and spend 6 or 8 hours floating down the river.

Whipped out some patterns yesterday and then took a friend to Mexico to have a wisdom tooth pulled.  Emergency extraction!  We have all our dental work done in Mexico in offices newer, nicer, more modern than here in Yuma or for anywhere else that I can recall.  We are fortunate to have dental insurance but it's still cheaper in Mexico.

After Mexico I hit the thrift stores in town and it was a bonus trip.  Got almost 200 and they are most of them uncut Vogue patterns from the 1980's to 1990's.  The pile of unscanned and unlisted is getting taller ...

After getting home late yesterday no energy to put in for today but whipped some out this morning.

My favorite for today is:  McCall's 3079 Top of the Line Skirt 1954- very useable straight skirt.  It's true beauty lies in that zippered pocket.  Don't think I've seen an oldie with zipper pockets before.

McCall 7124 Delightful Day or Evening Skirt 1947- nothing beats a great skirt paired with a vintage blouse.  The evening length of course is the highlight for me.

It never rains .... had to replace my computer monitor a few weeks ago when it went "blank" and then my computer died just before the weekend.  So a new computer and a new scanner (the old one wasn't compatible") gave me a few fits but now I wish I had done it sooner.  The new computers are like greased lightning.

 

 

Featured new:   Butterick 3999 Eye Popping Sleeveless Dress, Top & Skirt 1995 with side buttoning just killer.  I love patterns that have graceful waistlines which this one does.  After years of watching "What Not to Wear" (the UK version is better than the US version) I know better than to wear something like this myself as I am too short and stumpy.
